One of the most common bathroom leaks, a leaking shower enclosure can cause major damage, from loose, curling and rotting flooring to peeling paint, water stains, mold and more. If you think you’ve got a leak on your hands, follow these steps to find out where the water’s getting out:
- Check for gaps in the rubber gaskets.
- Check for gaps in the caulk between your shower enclosure and bathroom floor.
- From the inside, splash water all around and over the shower door and frame. Check the outside of the shower enclosure for leaking water. Be patient - leaks can take over 5 minutes to show up.
Not that you’ve found the leak, here’s how to fix it:
- Close your shower door correctly. Improper closure can lead to leaking.
- Replace rubber gaskets.
- To seal a leaking shower frame, run a small amount of caulk around the inside, paying careful attention to any gaps. Wipe away the excess and allow to dry.
- To fix gaps between the shower enclosure and the floor, scrape out the old caulk and add new. Allow to dry.
